Further vineyard context

Granite, gneiss, gabbro, amphibolite and mica schist create a varied geological patchwork. These are rock families, not guaranteed flavours; exposure, vine age and lees handling also matter.

★ Muscadet communales: the current ageing calendar

  • Current ageing calendar: All seven must remain on their fine fermentation lees until at least 1 October of the second year after harvest (N+2), and remain on those lees until bottling. The 2025 amendment harmonised the former differing minima.
  • Consumer release: Release begins from the 60th day after bottling. This is a separate clock from the lees-ageing deadline.
  • Read the vintage: For historical bottles, use the specification that applied to their production. Do not apply a current harmonised rule backwards as a claim about every old vintage.
