Place & landscape

  • Places: Deutschkreutz, Horitschon, Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg are useful central Burgenland anchors.
  • Grape focus: Blaufränkisch is the DAC variety, with the legal blending tolerance. Other grapes or broader-origin wines can still come from local producers.

Read the appellation

  • Dryness: All three DAC categories have at most 2.5 g/L residual sugar.
  • Three categories: Regional DAC: 12.5% or 13% labelled alcohol. Ried DAC: 13% or 13.5%. Reserve: at least 13%.
  • Release: Regional DAC releases from 1 August after harvest; Ried from 1 October after harvest; Reserve from 1 March in the second year after harvest.

At the table

  • Blaufränkisch: Pair with beef ragout or roast lamb and rosemary; firm tannins meet the meat, while acidity freshens the savoury sauce.
  • Service: Structured reds: 16–18°C; decant mature sedimented bottles gently just before service.
