Defining estates and collectives
Concha y Toro
Peumo · Cachapoal Valley
- The merlot was carménère: At Peumo, Concha y Toro was growing carménère believing it to be late-ripening merlot. This mistaken identity became a speciality: the Cachapoal vineyard supplies « Terrunyo Carménère » and « Carmín de Peumo ».
- Two parcels, two carménères: « Terrunyo Carménère » comes from parcel 27. Tasting the grapes from parcel 32, Marcio Ramírez and his team discovered a more delicate carménère, inspiring « Carmín de Peumo ».
- Two expressions of carménère: « Carmín de Peumo » 2022: blackcurrant, bell pepper and graphite, on a generous palate without heaviness, with a fresh finish. « Terrunyo Carménère » 2022: roasted red pepper, red fruits and sweet spices; medium-bodied, with juicy fruit and a supple finish.
