Clay vessels and mixed plantings
- Tinajas: Traditional clay vessels can be used for red and white wines. Vessel choice and skin contact are separate decisions; a tinaja wine is not automatically orange.
- Vintage examples: Viejas Tinajas Tinto 2024 is Cinsault. The 2022 Blanco is listed as 85% Muscat with other whites, while Las Olvidadas 2022 is a País-led mixed planting.
- Origin: Itata is a subregion of the southern wine region, separate from Bío-Bío. Its legal boundary includes named communes in Ñuble and Florida in Biobío; old descriptions that place all Itata in the former Bío-Bío administrative region are outdated.
