VIGNO’s current charter

  • Vines and blend: At least 85% Carignan; vines at least 30 years old, head-trained and dry-farmed in Secano Interior Maule Sur. The remaining varieties must meet the same vineyard criteria.
  • Ageing: At least 24 months before release, with vessels and bottle use depending on the producer. This does not mean 24 months in new oak.
  • Status: VIGNO is a private collective brand and association, not an extra statutory Chilean DO. Its name is distinct from the legal Secano Interior origin for qualifying País/Cinsault wines.

Smaller origins

  • Maule structure: Valle del Maule is a subregion of Valle Central. Claro, Loncomilla and Tutuvén are its zones; Cauquenes is a useful southern dryland anchor.
  • Broader styles: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère and Merlot remain part of Maule. Old-vine Carignan is a strong learning anchor, not the whole region’s production.
