Pioneers and renewal

Elena Fucci

Basilicata

  • An old-vine selection on the Vulture: Titolo Superiore comes from Elena Fucci’s oldest Aglianico vines, around seventy years old, at Barile on the slopes of the Vulture. Bunch selection is followed by berry sorting, defining this Aglianico del Vulture Superiore through a specific selection.
  • Time before release: The wine matures for twenty-four months in French barriques, half new, then a further twelve months in bottle. Cherry, sour cherry, herbs, spice and tobacco accompany concentrated substance, polished tannins and fresh acidity.
  • The decision that began Titolo: In 2000, Elena decided to keep the family vines around her home instead of selling them. She turned to oenology and made Titolo the centre of her project.
