Pioneers and renewal

Felline

Puglia

  • Primitivo mapped by soil: Felline explores Primitivo across Manduria through distinct soils and microclimates. Its Terra Rossa comes from the area’s widespread red soils: relatively shallow ground over limestone, coloured by iron oxides. The name identifies one part of this work on origins.
  • A supple expression of Manduria: Felline Terra Rossa spends a short period in French oak. Ripe cherry, red fruit and Mediterranean herbs accompany supple tannins, with balance and drinkability at the centre of its profile.
Historic estates and founders

Leone de Castris

Puglia

  • Salice Salentino with a long house history: Leone de Castris first made its Salice Salentino in 1954. The 2004 vintage marked the fiftieth harvest and introduced the name 50° Vendemmia, which remains on later releases. It commemorates the wine’s history rather than fifty years of bottle ageing.
  • The Riserva’s cellar route: For the 2021, the producer describes eight to twelve days of maceration followed by six to twelve months in oak of different sizes and at least six months in bottle. Its oak maturation accompanies the sweet-spice notes of this Negroamaro red.
  • The 2021: supple but structured: Blackberry, sour cherry, basil and sweet spices accompany a supple, balanced palate with assertive tannin. The producer recommends roasts and mature cheeses, served with the wine at 16–18°C.
