Essential references

Codorníu

Cava DO

  • Anna, a family name: In 1659, the marriage of Anna Codorníu and Miquel Raventós united the two families. Anna’s first name returned on a bottle in 1984 with the launch of the wine that pays tribute to her.
  • Chardonnay enters Cava: ‘Anna de Codorníu’ makes Chardonnay a house signature alongside Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada. Its bubbles come from a second fermentation in bottle, following the traditional method.
  • A delicate, fresh Cava: ‘Anna de Codorníu Brut’: tropical fruit and citrus in a delicate, very refreshing brut Cava.

Mestres

Catalonia

  • ‘Visol’, only wine: In 1945, Josep Mestres marketed ‘Visol’ without adding sugar after disgorgement, the operation that removes the yeast deposit. Its name, ‘only wine’, sums up this early commitment to brut nature.
  • Wood before bubbles: For ‘Visol’, the base wine spends six months in barriques, then the Cava ages for sixty months in bottle. This long maturation is part of the Mestres signature and aims, among other things, to integrate the bubbles into the wine.
